More open road – southern border, CA
The weather was quite chilly at times. We hear it is unusually chilly for this time of year. As I ride closer to the border of Mexico, I notice a “wall”. I am pretty close to the border at this point; maybe not even a quarter mile. There are huge gates dispersed along the wall. I saw a lot of border patrol officers patrolling the road I was riding on. I don’t know if that should have made me feel safer or more nervous! At the top of the hill, there was a border patrol station building.

As I neared the town of El Centro, CA, my map told me to take the road you see pictured below. This is quite possibly the worst road I have ever taken in my life. It is not worthy of being driven by a vehicle, much less a bicycle. These pictures do not do the road justice on how bad they are. There are huge pot holes all through the road, and cracks so wide and deep my whole tire could get lost in them. Thank goodness, it was at the tail end of my day!
I thought colorado roads Were bad. Those are horrible. Be safe! Lots of support and hugs.
Roads in general so far have been pretty bad. I guess it is something you don’t really notice when driving a car. But, this road in particular was the worst so far. I am a few days behind in my blogging. Stay posted for more!
