Day 1 – 11.35 miles – 1 hour 26 minutes – March 10, 2018

After 2 days of significant driving (because the RV is really slow), we made it to our destination outside San Diego. We stayed in Oakzanita Springs RV campground. This place ended up being our hub for 3 nights.  We arrived late on Thursday, and needed a day to prepare the bikes, get my nutrition put together, and organize the RV. So, I didn’t start riding until Saturday. We woke up to rain Saturday morning. It was just a light sprinkle, so I figured I could ride. Before I left, I told everyone; “I will not ride if it is raining!”. However, because we were behind schedule, I decided it was time to get started rather than falling further behind our schedule. We drove the 40 minutes into San Diego and got to my starting point – Ocean Beach. Finding the beach was slightly confusing…mostly because we were relying on GPS to get us there. Natural instinct would have served us better.

It was a great feeling to take my first few turns of my petals. I can’t believe this adventure is actually starting. I can’t believe I am actually doing this. What have I gotten myself into?! Holy moley…here I go!

Navigating through San Diego was not easy, and especially since it was raining. The “bike path” through the city was not a straight path. There were many starts and stops with no signs to tell me where it picks up again. Sometimes I was riding a block or two out of the way before realizing I needed to turn around to get to the bike path. Eventually, I ran out of the designated bike path, and had to ride on the highway.

The rain got to a point where I couldn’t see with either my glasses on or off. After getting to the other side of the city, I decided to call it a day. While I didn’t get that far, it sure was great to get my wheels on the ground!
