Better hunker down, ya’ll. There’s a squall comin’ through! Lawd ha’ mercy!

“Ain’t nobody goin’ no where!” I absolutely love the diversity and culture in our country! It warms my heart and makes my soul smile to hear the differences in the way people speak about every day things. The dialect and accents in other parts of our country is so fun and interesting to be a part of.

It’s been a long time since my last blog, and I plan to catch up in a brief post for the last couple weeks. I am currently in a little town called Columbus, TX. We are staying at an absolutely beautiful RV park that is part of the Thousand Trails RV parks. This park is amazing. We are on the Colorado River in Texas. Our backyard for 3 days is amazing. We are getting approached by “regulars” who are wondering how we scored the best spot in the park. (We just were here at the right time when someone else left the spot). But, it truly is the best spot in the place. Upon arriving here yesterday, we were told that today was supposed to be a very bad thunderstorm, starting in the middle of the night. We woke up this morning to heavy winds, but no rain. I decided to sleep in thinking that we would wake up to rain, and decided if I wasn’t going to ride today, that we would go out to breakfast. Off to Beckey’s Cafe in Columbus, Tx we went this morning. When we arrived we were greeted by a beautiful woman: “How ya’ll doin today?!” As we were sitting there, we were warned many times about the storm coming in. A gentleman sitting at the table next to us was calling someone he was supposed to be meeting today to inform them that a squall was coming through and he was going to hunker down and not drive the distance to meet them. He would be on his way tomorrow. It seemed as if we made the right decision to not ride today. Last thing I want is to get caught up in a thunderstorm, or apparently worse, a squall. After breakfast, we decided to make a stop to see the second to largest living tree in Texas. It is an oak tree on a private piece of property in Columbus, TX. It is an amazing tree and absolutely stately. We came back to the campsite with a Redbox movie in hand, expecting to spend the day indoors. The big storm never came as we were expecting (at least as of this post). We went on a long hike through the park we are staying at. It is probably one of the most beautiful properties we have stayed at. We sat in the hot tub here, and did some things around the motor home. It was a disappointing day with the weather not being as bad as predicted. It would have been a great day to ride (although windy), and I was looking forward to it. However, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable day with how we decided to spend it. We got a taste of small town Texas. All the people we engaged with were so wonderful and diverse in the way they spoke and their outlook on things. I would have loved to get some miles in, but the way this day went is one of the reasons why this trip is happening…..to experience the little things.

I have so much to catch up on and so many pictures to post. I will try to get that done in the next couple days. In the meantime, I am planning to continue riding tomorrow, heading through more of Texas. I am finding out that it is true….Texas comprises close to 1/3 the miles of my trip!!

P.S. It is still very windy, but we did not get the downpour of rain we were expecting. Tomorrow is supposed to be partly sunny 🙂
